Style Crushing - Amber Heard

Lately I've been style crushing on Amber Heard, who's been popping up on red carpets everywhere.  Not too surprising since she's starring in the new "Mad Men" TV series, "Playboy Club."  I'm loving her red carpet style which ranges from Donna Karan to Philip Lim.  I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more of this blondie, especially in the fashion world.  Designers should be paying extra attention to her and securing a relationship for the future cause this girl's got a bright one.

The Oscars of Fashion - CFDA Awards

Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung Take Home Wins at the CFDA Awards on Monday night in New York.  Affectionately called the Oscars of fashion, it's the only awards show where the nominees dress themselves. Some highlights from the night included Lady Gaga accidentally texted Anna Wintour "We did it Bitch" (apparently she meant for it to go to another Anna, oops!), Gerard Butler revealed a new look (is it me or does he look like a soap star?), DVF announced that Anderson Copper, who hosted the show, had to leave early to deal with "a Weiner situation," oh, and some amazing fashion too. Here are a few of my favorites from the night.

Fashionista.com is Officially on Marc Jacobs' Sh*t List

“Is Marc Jacobs No Longer Cool and Relevant?” That was the headline of Fashionista.com’s article about the critical NY Times article on Marc Jacobs. They also tweeted the headline with a link to their story which prompted a sarcastic response from Marc Jacobs’ twitter account. Here is the Twitter tread between @Fashionista_com, @MarcJacobsIntl, and @CherylAnneNY (the writer of the blog post):

I don’t blame Marc, or the PR person behind his Twitter account, for being a bit peeved about the post. What a way to point out a scathing article that Marc was hoping would just go away! Good job, Fashionista.com. The famed fashion blog bullet pointed all the critical points the NY Times article made about why Marc Jacobs is so last year. Although they start off saying that Marc’s shows are still one of the most anticipated shows of NY Fashion Week, towards the end of the article they seem to agree with the Times article. After receiving Marc’s tweet, Fashionista.com tries to backtrack and even attempts to kiss his ass by saying, “We love you.” Really?!?! The smart approach would have been to ask for an interview first before writing the article, instead of the other way around. I personally think Marc is not out the door just yet. He’s got many designing years ahead of him.

Leighton Meester's Vera Wang Commercial is Beyond!

I'm lovestruck by this commercial!  Leighton Meester looks gorgeous in a Vera Wang gown waiting patiently on a NYC apartment fire escape for her rugged prince to arrive. Blake Lively seems to be getting all the great fashion campaigns lately (i.e., Chanel), so it's nice to see Miss Blair getting a piece of the fashion endorsement pie.  Although Meester looked great in the Missoni campaign, she wasn't the solo star.

The Sexy Nerd Appeal

If you watched the last season of 90210 you know that Naomi Clark had the hots for a nerd with black frame glasses, so I guess there is something to be said for the appeal of a four-eyed nerd.  Just the other day a friend told me that she has avoided wearing glasses for years, but has recently found it impossible to ignore her blurry vision.  She also told me that she's needed glasses since she was a little girl, but refused to wear them so her eyes eventually self-corrected.  Hmmm, sounds like she just got used to the blurry vision.  Anyhoo, she's on the hunt for cute designer eyeglasses, since she can't get the hang of contacts.  It got me thinking that, although I usually wear contacts, I would love to have a pair of adorable glasses to wear as an alternative. Currently I have a pair of outdated, slightly lopsided Calvin Klein glasses that I would never be caught dead in outside of my house. Therefore, I've tracked down a few favorite styles with the perfect amount of sexy nerd appeal.

1. Chanel - 3213 Black - $400

2. Gucci - D-Framed Olive - $265

3. DKNY - DY4561 Black - $169.95

4. Ray-Ban - RX5150 Black- $159.95

5. Tory Burch - TY2005 Green - $226

6. Tom Ford - TF5117 Tortoise - $364.95

Bright Red Jeans at a Conservative Office

I work in a fairly conservative office, to say the least, and sometimes I find myself second guessing what I wear to work every morning.  If I have meetings I tend to wear a more conservative outfit, but sometimes I take a risk and wear a more trendy ensemble.  When I choose the latter I usually get the up and down look from a few co-workers (but not in a good way).  Today I wore my brand new J Brand bright red pants to work because one, I had no meetings, and two, I was super excited about them.  I styled it with a plain black J. Crew sweater and black flats in order to tone it down a bit.  I got through the day without any discerning looks, but I couldn't help but wonder if the bright pants were still too much.  Maybe I'll give it another whirl at work later this summer.  In the meantime, they will be getting a lot of play on the weekends.

Long Live McQueen

McQueen wore this t-shirt in support of Kate Moss during her
drug problems, but it seems appropriate for the new Princess
The Royal Wedding is over, but it seems everyone is still talking about it. I ended up setting my alarm for 2 a.m. and stayed up for two and a half hours watching the wedding coverage before I fell asleep again. As predicted, Kate's dress was Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton's, creative director of McQueen, very quick dash into the Goring hotel two hours before Kate arrived the day before the wedding seemed to give it away. Although she kept her face covered, she wore a very recognizable belt and ballet flats that created a frenzy in the fashion world. Kate's bold choice of the McQueen fashion house showed that she is quickly turning into the fashionista that I predicted a while back. Too bad Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide last year, wasn't around for such a historical moment.

The second most talked about dress was Pippa Middleton's, which was also designed by Sarah Burton. Apparently her derrière looked so amazing in the McQueen dress that there is a Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society Facebook page with a little over 150,000 fans.

One of the most entertaining things about the wedding were all the crazy hats. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie take the award for the most hideous hats (my favorite tweet on Twitter was when someone called them Patsy & Edina from the British sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous"), while my favorite hats were worn by Victoria Beckham, Princess Marie-Chantal, and Lady Fredrick Windsor.

Cheers to the couple! Who else is excited for the royal babies?
